Nigeria hotel and tourism data
Use the figures with their dates.
Reliable, recent hospitality data is not published in one consistent national series. This page brings together the strongest public figures available from the World Bank and Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics, without treating older data as if it describes today’s market.
For an operator, the value is context: where international demand has been recorded, how travel receipts have moved, and how accommodation and food services have appeared in national economic reporting.
5.265 million
international visitor arrivals
This is the latest Nigeria figure in the World Bank series, for 2016. It is a useful historical measure of international travel demand, not a current occupancy measure.
World Bank, International tourism, number of arrivals, 2016 ↗US$321 million
international tourism receipts
The World Bank records this value for Nigeria in 2020. It reflects spending by international visitors and should be read in the context of the pandemic year.
World Bank, International tourism receipts, 2020 ↗2.13%
real year-on-year growth in accommodation and food services
Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics reported this rate for the second quarter of 2024, compared with the same quarter a year earlier.
National Bureau of Statistics, Q2 2024 GDP Report, Q2 2024 ↗0.42%
of Nigeria’s nominal GDP from accommodation and food services
The National Bureau of Statistics reported this sector contribution for the second quarter of 2024. It is a national economic measure, not a share of hotel revenue alone.
National Bureau of Statistics, Q2 2024 GDP Report, Q2 2024 ↗Methodology and sources
A small set of checkable statistics.
Figures are presented exactly as reported by their original publisher. The World Bank series attributes its tourism data to UN Tourism. Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics publishes the accommodation and food-services figures within its GDP reporting.
Different reporting periods and definitions should not be compared as though they are one measure. In particular, international arrivals, international tourism receipts and the accommodation-and-food-services sector describe different parts of the economy.
